This modern tapestry piece was commissioned for a nursery. The inspiration was simple: rolling hills and a fluffy cloud filled sky, in soft light. By utilizing the natural texture of raw silk, wool, raw edged linen, embroidered organza, and velvet Jess was able to create different types of terrain. The clouds were created with a few types of yarn and strips of embroidered silk. The combination of weaves and the changing directions of the stitches creates the dimensional clouds in the sky.
